FAQ

  • *Once you’ve decided on your newest furry family member you must fill out our online form that asks several questions located at betterdaysdogrescue.com/adopt-a-dog

We do a FaceTime or in person home check where we see where the dog is going to be staying and go over what their daily routine and lifestyle with the specific dog they are adopting looks like. We go over the dogs breed and activity needs and ask if they have any questions

We call the owners vet and make sure their current or previous dogs have had vet care

We ask to verify rabies and parvo for all dogs in the home and for puppies under 6 months

Before going home with your new pet, we have adopters sign an adoption agreement form.

  • *All of our dogs get fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed/ neutered (only after 6 months of age), receive heartworm preventatives while in our care, dewormed upon arrival to our facility and get flea/tick preventatives as well

  • *Adoption fees are $150 unless noted otherwise

  • *Update to adoption process dated 4/15/25:

We have received many inquiries on the adoption process for those with pets already living in their home and have spoken to our County Animal Control representatives to align our process to theirs as much as we are able. We understand that not all counties require or enforce the same rules for adoptions and respect those policies that differ from ours as well.

Animal shelters, animal control, and dog rescues ARE NOT EQUAL and do not get funding from the same parties, therefore policies will differ based on many things including but not limited to: the size of the shelter, amount of staff (we have ZERO staff as we are a volunteer driven rescue), and how much funding they get.

That being said, our County Animal Control informed us that can we ASK for verification of vaccinations of every dog in the possible adopters home, but we cannot ENFORCE OR DEMAND verification as we are not actually law enforcement officers.

We understand that some do not agree with that policy, but we will be obeying our county laws and regulations. Thank You!

If you have any further questions regarding this policy, please contact Bedford County Animal Control.
